ST. BONAVENTURE, NY -- The Alfred University men's tennis team wrapped up its 2024-25 season with a home match against Nazareth University. They took one point away from them in the 8-1 loss.
"I was very pleased with the fight and support the team showed one another, especially in doubles," Head Coach
Jake Fisler said. "This isn't the end, this is the beginning of a bright future for the program."
Breece Erickson (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) earned the win his No. 1 singles match. It took three sets after he won the first set 6-3, and then the deciding third set 10-7. He also came close with
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) for the second straight day in their doubles match with another 8-5 loss.
Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) and
Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) also came down to the wire in their doubles match. Despite the 8-6 loss, they did well in their efforts. Ungurian also took the first set to seven points in a close effort to close out the season.
AU will head into the offseason and start preparation for the following men's tennis season.
