ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team fell to Nazareth University on the road by a score of 19-8 on Wednesday.
Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) led the Saxons with five points on three goals and two assists. He is currently five goals away from surpassing
Joe Fornataro '19 for the program's second all-time leader in career goals.
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) registered two goals while
Keagan Hoesterey (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) and
Drew Smith (Walworth, NY/Ruben A. Cirillo) each had two points on one goal and one assist.
Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) won 13 faceoffs and picked up five ground balls.
Quinn Sullivan (Elmira, NY/Elmira) finished with eight saves in net.

Alfred University (4-7, 2-4 Empire 8) was held scoreless at the beginning of the game while Nazareth University (10-4, 6-0 Empire 8) jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. Cupp attempted a shot that went wide but Matson picked up the ground ball and flipped it into the net for the Saxons' first goal at 6:04. With 37 seconds left in the first period,
Michael Gruin (Hamburg, NY/Orchard Park) found
Cole Loewke (Hilton, NY/Hilton) for the goal to make it a 5-2 game.
Matson and Riley posted goals in the early minutes of the second period to keep the game close, but the Golden Flyers went on a 3-0 run to end the first half and put the game out of reach.
The Saxons were outshot 36-23 and 28-13 in between the pipes.
Alfred University returns to Yunevich Stadium to host Senior Day against Utica University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
