AUBURNDALE, FL -- The Alfred University baseball team played in games three and four of the season against the Emerson Lions with two losses.
"We've got a lot of nerves having a factor on us," Head Coach
Brian Kehew said. "We got a lot of young guys working through it and learning on the fly. We keep looking to see improvement throughout the week."
Game One
In the first game of the afternoon,
Alex Beaird (Oswego, IL/Oswego) returned to action after missing all of last year. In his three-inning outing, he recorded five strikeouts.
Four runs put across in the final three innings brought it to a four-run game in the sixth inning. A double by
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) brought home two runners. He was then given the green light on an RBI single by
Noah Madueno (Florence, AZ/Florence). The push back wasn't enough in the end in an 11-4 loss.
Game Two
Derek Vlietstra (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley) would get the nod on the mound. He too had a three-inning outing, where he managed to have seven strikeouts.
Patrick Quinn (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) followed suit with five strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
Jack Grider (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point) led the Saxons with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. He would score alongside
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) thanks to an error by the Lions' shortstop on a chopped hit by
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area).
The Saxons have an off-day Monday before returning to action Tuesday morning against Mount Saint Mary College at 9:30 a.m.
