Box Score ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University men's tennis team dropped its first Empire 8 conference game 6-1 to Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon.

"They played better than is and deserved the win, simple as that," Head Coach Jake Fisler said. "I am thankful we get to play them again because I know we left some in the tank today."

Ricardo Alvarez Janik (La Orotava, Spain/Colegio Casa Azul) took home the lone win of the match in his singles performance. He handled business 6-3, 6-4 against the Golden Flyers' number one player.

There was plenty of other competitive matches for the Saxons which just didn't go their way. Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) and Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) both took at least one set of their singles matches to a tiebreak.

Ungurian took the second and final set to a tiebreak to keep the match alive for just a bit longer in the eventual 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) loss. Bittel took the first set of his match to a tiebreak which he dropped 9-7. Nonetheless, the Saxons showed some fight and will get to do battle again with Nazareth later in the spring.

Before then, a first home match of the season awaits AU Men's Tennis on April 2. It comes against Houghton University at 4:00 p.m.
