Saxons Silence Wolves in 66-58 Road Win

KEUKA PARK, NY - A dominant second half from the Alfred University men's basketball team led to a 66-58 win over Keuka College on Friday night.

Amoi Charles (Elmont, NY/H. Frank Carey) led Alfred University with a team-high 22 points to go with six rebounds. Zion Baitey (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) registered 11 points, 10 boards and eight assists. Oscar Wolter (Munich, Germany/Lycee Jean Renoir) added nine points and four rebounds as part of the win.

"Not our very best tonight, but I'm proud that we found a way to win on the road," Head Coach Erich Kaempffe said. "I thought Keuka did a nice job, but our team executed a little bit higher coming out of the locker room and did the right thing on both ends."

The Saxons were forced to play from behind in the early stages of the first half, with Charles recording seven of the team's first 11 points. The Wolves built an 11-point advantage for themselves, but AU responded with an 8-0 run to turn the game into a one-possession contest with under eight minutes to play in the first half. A deep shot from Charles at the 4:12 mark gave Alfred University their first lead of the evening. Keuka answered with 11 unanswered points before taking a 35-26 lead into halftime.

A shot from beyond the arc from Tyler Hind (Randolph, NY/Randolph) opened scoring for AU in the second half. Moments later, a three-point shot by Gabe Eldaye (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was part of a 16-2 run for Alfred University. A layup from Wolter was followed by a successful free throw from Baitey, as the Saxons were up by double-digit figures with under six minutes remaining. Consecutive deep shots from Charles and Hind had AU ahead by a game-high 13 points in the closing stages. Keuka went on a 7-2 run to close out the game, but Alfred University held on for the victory.

Alfred University will next compete at Elmira College on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 PM.
