Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saxons Record Season High in Three Pointers Against Brockport

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team tallied a season-high 12 three-pointers in its home loss to SUNY Brockport, 83-65, on Friday at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

It marked the third time this season that the Saxons have notched 10 or more triples in a contest. Alfred University made 10 three-pointers against Fredonia (11/20) and at SUNY Poly (1/17).

Leading the Saxons in scoring for the third-straight game was Jaidyn Chest (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) as she tallied 15 points on 6-of-13 from the field and 3-of-7 from behind the arc. Libby Benner (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) notched her second double-figure performance of her career with a season-high 12 points. She also drained a season-high four three-pointers. Felicia Stewart (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) was the third Saxon in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

"We are much more pleased with our offensive performance this time around against them," head coach Mike Moskowitz said. "The ball moved well and our off ball movement was more fluid. We got crushed on the offensive glass and that led to a ton of second chance points and fouls which stunted any chance for a sustained run. Looking forward to honoring our seniors tomorrow and preparing for our last home game for the year."

Chest scored the first three baskets for the Saxons (13-10, 7-7 Empire 8) to make it a 13-7 game in the Golden Eagles' (20-3, 13-1 Empire 8) advantage. Benner drained back-to-back three-pointers while Jayda L. Felker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) notched a free throw at the 14-second mark. The first quarter ended with SUNY Brockport leading 22-14.

The Saxons remained close with the Golden Eagles in the second quarter. Felker and Chest each made a triple in the early stages. With under five minutes left, Stewart registered a layup and Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) made a perfect two-of-two from the free-throw line to get Alfred University within eight, 32-24.

Unfortunately, that was as close the Saxons would get in the game as the Golden Eagles ended the second with a 14-6 run that put the game out of reach.

In addition to the 12-of-31 (.387) from the three-point line, Alfred University shot 23-of-62 (.371) overall and went 7-of-9 (.778) at the free-throw line. SUNY Brockport was 31-of-85 (.365) overall, 3-of-21 (.143) from behind the arc and 18-of-25 (.720) at the charity stripe.

The Saxons were outscored 42-18 in the paint and struggled with 21 turnovers that turned into 20 points for the Golden Eagles.

Alfred University hosts Senior Day for its final home game of the season against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday at 2 PM.
