ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team dropped its final home game to SUNY Geneseo by a score of 73-52 on Saturday at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

Before the game, the Saxons honored graduating seniors Samantha Fischer (Wappingers Falls, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes), Alyssa DiMillo (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool), Shyanne Trinh (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton), Grace Rittenhouse (Dansville, NY/Dansville), Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) and Felicia Stewart (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer).

Jaidyn Chest (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) recorded her second double-double of the season and fourth in her career as she tallied 12 points and matched her season-high 10 rebounds.

"We played with some nice energy and flow in the first half but they finished the last few minutes better than we did," head coach Mike Moskowitz said. "The third quarter was a tough one. They scored extremely efficiently and we couldn't make a shot on some decent looks. But today was a special day. Senior Day always brings a wide range of emotions. We certainly felt with them today as we honored the commitment and pride our group of six have brought to our program in their careers. This group really helped our program turn a corner and set the standard for years to come."

Trinh, who started in her first career game for Alfred University (13-11, 7-8 Empire 8), scored the first basket of the game. Beehler followed with her first basket three minutes later before both teams went cold from the field. At 4:09, SUNY Geneseo (19-5, 14-1 Empire 8) registered five unanswered points to go up 15-4. The Saxons heated up from the 3-point line in the latter half of the first quarter. Jayda L. Felker (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) notched a 3-pointer at 3:16 to cut the Knights score to single digits. Libby Benner (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) followed with three consecutive triples to make it a four-point game going into the second quarter, 20-16.

After SUNY Geneseo started the second with a 3-pointer, Rittenhouse hit two free throws that ignited a 10-5 run for Alfred University. Rittenhouse's triple at 5:25 would bring the Saxons within two, 28-26. Felker and Stewart also contributed three-pointers to keep the score close. However, the Knights posted two last minute buckets to lead 41-32 at the break.
