ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball dropped an Empire 8 match to SUNY Brockport, 3-1, on Friday.
After losing the first set, 22-25, the Saxons (12-14, 4-4 Empire 8) rallied to claim the second set 25-20. However, the Golden Eagles (14-7, 7-1 Empire 8) regained momentum by winning the final two sets, 25-16 and 25-5.
Meeghan Peterson (Amherst, NY/Williamsville South) made program history tonight as she tallied a season-high six service aces to break the single-season record. Her 56 this year is the most made since Beth Sanger registered 53 in 2005. In addition, Peterson added nine digs to her stat line.
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) led AUVB in double figures for scoring. Malone posted 14.5 points on 13 kills, one service ace and one block assist while recording 12 digs. Santavy notched 10.0 points on nine kills and two block assists.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) led with 23 assists on the night while adding seven digs.
Madalynn McGowan (Corona, CA/Norco) tied with Malone in digs with 12. She also notched three assists and a service ace.
The Saxons travel to take on SUNY Geneseo on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
