ONEONTA, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team opened the fall slate with a 7-0 loss at SUNY Oneonta on Saturday.
"We are where we need to be at this point in the season," Head Coach 
Jake Fisler said. "I was pleased with the energy and their willingness to compete. Going to take that same energy into practice this week to iron out a few things and go from there. Looking forward to continuing to improve each and every day."
Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and 
Andre Lopez Jimenez (Mexico City, Mexico/PrepaTec Esmeralda) played a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, with the score ending 7-6 (8-6) in favor of the Red Dragons (4-1, 0-0 SUNYAC).
In singles play, 
Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) kept the first set close at 7-5 before dropping the second set 6-0 at No. 6.
Looking ahead, the Saxons (0-1, 0-0 Empire 8) will compete at the Wilkes University Doubles Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 19.
