PITTSFORD, NY -- The Alfred University men's soccer team took Empire 8 play up to St. John Fisher University, falling 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The Saxons fall under .500 with a 4-5-1 record, and move to 2-2-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Cardinals earned their first win of the season at 1-7-1, and move to 1-2-1 in Empire 8 play.
"I thought the guys fought hard and fully deserved more from the game," Head Coach
Garret Eldridge said. "It's unfortunate, but that's soccer. We have to stick together and move on quickly. The Empire 8 is one of the best conferences in the region and we have to show up ready to compete Saturday."
Duje Boric (Mali Losinj, Croatia/XXI Gymnasium) and
Dennis Hayes V (Ferndale, MI/Berkley) had the first two shots of the match in the opening seven minutes. Hayes' forced a save by the Cardinals goalie, and he'd have another in the 32nd minute. He ended with three on the night.
Hamza Kromah (Margibi, Liberia/Western Reserve Academy) led the way once again for AU with four shots in 90 minutes. He was part of earning the Saxons a game-leading five corner kicks.
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) notched two saves in the loss, giving up the game-winning goal in the 47th minute. While Alfred University pushed on afterward, they couldn't find the game-tying goal.
They'll look to bounce back and get to winning ways, back on the road against Elmira College on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
