ALFRED, NY – A competitive effort came down to the wire for the Alfred University men's basketball team, who lost to Houghton University in 62-59 fashion on Tuesday night.

Prior to the game, Alfred University Men's Basketball took time to celebrate Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, where members of the team got to honor specific mentors of theirs for their ongoing success off the court.

Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) led Alfred University with a game-high 25 points to go with three assists and two rebounds. Amoi Charles (Elmont, NY/H. Frank Carey) totaled seven points and double-digit rebounds. Tyler Hind (Randolph, NY/Randolph) finished the game with eight points and a pair of steals for AU.

An opening shot by Curran was followed by a deep shot by Zion Baitey (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) for the initial lead. There were seven lead changes across the first ten minutes of action, with Curran totaling 14 points in the half before the team went into the break with a 31-29 lead. In the second half, an opening shot from beyond the arc by Baitey extended the lead for AU. Six straight points by Curran had the Saxons leading by as many as six points with under eight minutes remaining. The Highlanders cut their deficit and eventually a dunk gave them a one-possesion lead with 30 seconds left to play. The Saxons launched a last-second shot to send the game into overtime, but it was just off the mark to close out the game.

Alfred University will next remain at home to host Russell Sage College on Friday at 7:30 PM.
