Men's Basketball Falls to Brockport in Road Matchup

BROCKPORT, NY - The Alfred University men's basketball team continued their season with an 85-53 loss to SUNY Brockport on Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Curran (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) finished the game with a team-high 19 points to go with six rebounds. Tyler Hind (Randolph, NY/Randolph) totaled eight points and three boards. Amoi Charles (Elmont, NY/H. Frank Carey) added seven points and a pair of blocks and steals on the defensive end for AU.

"It was a tough one today," Head Coach Erich Kaempffe said. "Not our best, but a lot of credit to Brockport and Coach Clarke. They were ready to go and played well. We're excited to get back to work for a big week next week."

Curran and Hind each hit shots from beyond the arc in the early moments of the first half for the initial lead. A 9-0 run by Brockport forced Alfred University to play from behind. Five combined points between Robby Hicks (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Nolan Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) cut the deficit for the Saxons. Curran scored five of the final seven points for AU to close out the first half, but the team was still behind 36-25 going into the break. Hind was the first to score for Alfred University to begin the second half of action. Seven different members of AU tallied points in the final half of play, but the consistent efforts of Brockport distanced their advantage before the final buzzer.

Alfred University will next return home to host Houghton University on Tuesday with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 PM. Prior to the game, Alfred University Athletics will take time to recognize Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, where members of the men's basketball program will honor those who have made an impact for themselves off the court.
