Saxons Earn 86-57 Home Victory Over Keuka

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Alfred University women's basketball team closed out the Empire 8 weekend with an 86-57 victory over Keuka College on Saturday at Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

Jaidyn Chest (Mayfield, N.Y./Mayfield) was the leading scorer for the second-straight game as she finished with 16 points while notching eight rebounds and four assists. Grace Rittenhouse (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) racked up 11 points and a season-high 11 rebounds for the sixth double-double of her career. Jayda L. Felker (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) registered 11 points, three rebounds and a season-high four assists.

"Really nice effort for our team this afternoon," head coach Mike Moskowitz said. "We played with nice flow offensively and well enough defensively to have a nice lead at the half. I was proud of the last quarter where we really extended the lead. We're excited for some time together the next few days before heading on the road next week."

The game went back and forth in the early stages of the first quarter. Ava Anastasi (Sanborn, N.Y./Starpoint) drained a three at 3:57 which ignited a 14-8 run that gave Alfred University (8-5, 2-2 Empire 8) the 22-14 lead at the end.

In the second quarter, a bucket from Chest and back-to-back threes by Libby Benner (Nunda, N.Y./Keshequa) brought the Saxons up by double-digits, 30-19. Alfred University had the 47-28 halftime advantage after shooting 52.6% (10-19) from the field while holding Keuka College to just 27.8% (5-18).

The Saxons opened the third quarter with a 21-point lead after baskets from Rittenhouse and Natalee Collins (Waterville, N.Y./Waterville), 51-30. Alfred University continued to build its advantage for the rest of the game, including another 50% (9-18) shooting performance in the fourth quarter. The home team had its largest lead of 31 points after Kate Quinn (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) scored a three with 51 seconds left in the contest.

The Saxons were 41.8% overall in shooting and recorded a season-high 33 made field goals out of 79 attempts. Alfred University was also 80.0% (12-15) at the free-throw line. Keuka College was 31.0% (22-71) from the field and 75.0 (6-8) at the charity stripe.

The Saxons outscored the Wolves, 46-26, in the paint and notched eight fast break points.

Alfred University is on the road for the next two games beginning with SUNY Poly at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
