TROY, NY -- Alfred University's Men's Soccer team lost its first game in the 2024 Empire 8 Conference campaign 1-0 away to Russell Sage College.
"Tough loss today vs. Russell Sage, we probably deserved at least a point," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "We hit the post and had three penalty shouts in the second half. We'll regroup for another huge game on Wednesday."
The Gators only needed six minutes to net the lone goal of the game, pouncing at a second chance opportunity. The Saxons took control in the second half, and fought back with six shots in the final 45 minutes. They out-shot Russell Sage 6-1 and even hit the post, and were unfortunate not to find the back of the net.
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) finished with four saves on five shots from Russell Sage, and did what he could to push the Saxons forward in the second half. In front of him,
Juan Jose Menendez Gutierrez (Vilanueva Cañada, Madrid, Spain/Woodstock Academy) led the team with two shots, while the three shots on net came from
William Moore (Stormville, NY/John Jay),
Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), and
Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme).
"
Tyler Mulholland was excellent in the goal for us again.
Christian Moon and
Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) were excellent in the forward line and
Rodrigo Perez (Pelencia, Span/IES Victorio Macho) ran the show."
The Saxons are now 1-1 in conference play and look to get back into the win column back home at Yunevich Stadium on Wednesday, September 25 at 4:00 pm.
