KEUKA PARK, NY -- The Alfred University Men's Soccer team opened up Empire 8 Conference play with a 4-0 win over Keuka College Saturday afternoon.
"Great start to Empire 8 campaign with the shutout at Keuka," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "The whole team played really well, and tactically we did what was right and important for the win."
The two first half goals came in quick succession, only separated by 1:32.
Rodrigo Perez (Pelencia, Spain/IES Victorio Macho) nestled a free kick into the top corner in the 25th minute through the goalkeepers hands. Just moments later, Perez would contribute yet again - this time on the free kick finding
Justin Eaton (Williamson, NY/Williamson) for a diving header finished into the bottom of the net.
Just three minutes into the start of the second half,
Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) found space and turned in the box to trick everyone and sneak home the third Saxon goal. Finally, in the 67th minute,
Gavin Culley (San Diego, CA/San Dieguito Academy)Â added on with a nice finish thanks to a long ball into the box from
Christian Martinez (Grand Prairie, TX/South Grand Prairie).
In this second straight game with a win, Alfred University has outscored their opponents 10-0 with two straight shutouts.
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) got all 90 minutes under his belt, handling four shots with ease and none of them on target.
The Saxons continue on the road next Saturday against Russell Sage College, with kickoff slated for 4:00 pm.Â
