ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University Saxons Men's Soccer program opened its home slate of games with a big 6-0 win over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford Panthers.
"Good strong finish to the pre-conference schedule," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "Tactically, we did what we talked about, and we got it. It was a good result."
Shots were flying for the Saxons, with 24 shots in the first half and an additional 17 in the second half. Eventually, the goals came in waves with some familiar names on the score sheet.
Gavin Culley (San Diego, CA/San Dieguito Academy) opened the scoring from the right wing and going across the goal and in.
Justin Eaton (Williamson, NY/Williamson) added on a second with a brilliant volley finish into the top corner from Culley's long ball. The Saxons' third came with just 3.3 seconds to go in the first half with Culley tapping it home at the back post.
Xavier Bowman (Hampstead, MD/Manchester Valley) would come out roaring in the second half, with two goals in the first five minutes. He was a poacher in the box, as he turned and found the twine through traffic both times. His two goals were split by
Jaime Mendo Robles (Zarazoga, Spain/Hoosac) curling a nice finish from a short corner taken by Culley. In the end, Culley finished with two goals and three assists, while Bowman recorded two goals himself alongside an assist.
Plus, both netminders for the Saxons saw time.
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) participated in the first half, while
Connor Russell (Canastota, NY/Canastota) took part in the second half, recording the only Saxon save of the game.
The season rolls on with another road trip to Keuka College on Saturday, with kickoff slated for 3:00 pm.
