ANNVILLE, PA – Two games in less than 24 hours was always going to be tough for Alfred University's Men's soccer team.
The scoreline reflected as such, with the Saxons falling 5-0 at the hands of Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon. Once again, Alfred kept it close in the first half, only down 1-0 and opportunities to pounce.
"We played okay in the first half, however in the second we didn't compete as we expected and it showed on the scoreboard," Head Coach
Tracy Blake said. "This weekend has shown us many things to work on before the E-8 campaign begins."
A second-half breakdown eventually split the two teams. The Dutchmen exploded for four second-half goals to ease to its second straight win to open the season.
Goalkeeper
Connor Russell (Canastota, NY/Canastota) was busy all game long, facing 25 shots. He'd be caught out a couple of times by crazy deflections, and other times just wasn't able to much on the Lebanon attackers in the box.
The best chance for the Saxons came around for
Gavin Culley (San Diego, CA/San Dieguito Academy) in the closing minutes. His point-black chance in the box was saved onto the post, leaving him and his team still searching for the first goal of the season.
They'll get a chance to do so next week after some rest. Next up is another road trip to face Hilbert College on Wednesday, September 4 at 4 pm.
