ELIZABETHTOWN, PA -- Alfred University's Men's Soccer team fell to open its season against Elizabethtown University in a 1-0 result.
Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) led the offensive push for the Saxons with two shots, both of them challenging the netminder.
Gavin Culley (San Diego, CA/San Dieguito Academy) did the same with his one shot on target, forcing a save late on in the game.
But it would be
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) who would be the busiest man in the field for Alfred, as he faced 15 shots in the second half between the posts - with the game-winner getting by in the 78th minute. The Saxons kept things close at the other end, with both teams entering the halftime break even at five shots apiece. But it would be Elizabethtown who stormed away in the end, doubling the Saxons in shots 20-10 when the final whistle blew.
Alfred was also held without a corner kick for the entire game, while the home team had 10. While Sokolovsky held his own and pushed forward in the midfield, he also found himself in trouble, getting the only yellow card for the Saxons in the 55th minute.
Tracy Blake's men will be back in action in less than 24 hours against Lebanon Valley College, with kickoff slated for 4 pm.
