ERIE, PA – The Alfred University baseball team wrapped up a non-conference game against Penn State Behrend, being defeated 22-2 across seven innings of action.
The Saxons started
Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) on the mound, as he completed two innings for Alfred University. Both
Reyes Torres III (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) and
Chris McDonald (Toronto, ON, Canada Sir Wilfrid Laurier) made relief appearances, with McDonald recording one strikeout on the afternoon.
The run support for AU came in the third inning, as a bases loaded situation set up
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) to reach on a fielder's choice, allowing
Jeff Petrozzini (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and
William Denton (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) to score.
The first official hit for Alfred University occurred in the following inning, as Denton hit a single into the outfield, moving
Michael Ciardiello (Rutherford, NJ/Moore Catholic) to third base. The final hit for the Saxons belonged to
Paul Tuttle (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) in the sixth inning, as he recorded a single in the direction of the shortstop with two outs.
Penn State Behrend scored in each of the first six innings, resulting in the game being called following the seventh inning.
Alfred University will next travel to face Geneva College on Saturday with the first pitch taking place at 1:00 PM.
