Weimer Records Third Home Run, AU Drops Pair of Games to Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Consistent scoring from Penn College led to a pair of non-conference wins over the Alfred University baseball team on Tuesday.

Alfred University lost the first game 15-3, while dropping the second game 11-1.

Game One

Aaron Buck (Houghton, NY/Fillmore) was the first to step on the mound for the Saxons, lasting 2.1 innings. Both Reyes Torres III (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) and Connor Enebrad (Buckley, WA/Stadium) made relief appearances for AU.

The first run for the Saxons came in the fifth inning, as a solo home run from Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard) put Alfred University on the scoreboard. Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute) recorded his first triple of the spring season in the seventh inning, driving in Jeff Petrozzini (Hopewell Valley, NJ/Hopewell Valley). The Saxons put up an additional run later in the inning thanks to Weimer.

Penn College scored 10 runs in the third to extend their lead and ultimately win the first leg of the double-header.

Game Two

Owen Jennings (Newcastle, ON, Canada/St. Stephen's Secondary) made his return to the mound for AU to begin the second game. Jennings remained on the mound for two innings, recording five strikeouts. Both Charlie Rapos (Warkworth, ON, Canada/Campbellford District) and Chris McDonald (Toronto, ON, Canada/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) made relief appearances, combining for six strikeouts for the Saxons.

The lone run for Alfred University came in the top of the first inning, as Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) drew a walk, allowing Dylan Guthrie (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) to cross home plate. The offense for the Saxons totaled four hits, with Mulholland being one of them, but Penn College responded with another strong outing offensively to pull off the sweep.

Alfred University will next return to Empire 8 competition this Saturday against Keuka College.
