HOUGHTON, NY – A competitive outing for the Alfred University baseball team resulted in a 12-7 loss against Keuka College on Saturday night.
Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) pitched well on the mound for the Saxons, striking out eight batters across five innings. Both
Chris McDonald (Toronto, ON, Canada/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) and
Connor Enebrad (Buckley, WA/Stadium) came in for relief appearances, with McDonald retiring three batters via strikeout.
The Wolves were the first to get on the scoreboard in the first inning, but an RBI single from Weimer allowed
Jeff Petrozzini (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) to cross home plate and tie the game. In the second inning, an infield single from
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) drove in
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township). Alfred University took their first lead of the evening thanks to a bomb to right field from
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada/Etobicoke Collegiate Institute).
The Wolves took back the lead in the fourth inning, but in the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly from Mulholland cut the deficit for the Saxons. The offense continued to rally in the seventh inning, as
Anthony Cortez (Los Angeles, CA/Legacy) put the ball in play to allow
Dylan Guthrie (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) to score.
Keuka added four runs in the top of the ninth inning to extend their lead and ultimately come away with the win.
Alfred University will next face Keuka College in a double-header on Sunday beginning at 1:00 PM.
