ALFRED, NY – For only the second time in school history, a pair of Alfred University women's lacrosse players have swept the Empire 8 Weekly Awards as
Amelia Booth (Staatsburg, NY/FDR) and
Alyssa Piechota (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) did just that on Monday afternoon in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
The duo follow
Michelle Adams '11 and
Kate Baughman '11 when they did so in 2010. Adams was the Player of the Week and Baughman was the Goalie of the Week. Booth was this week's Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week while Piechota was the Goalie of the Week.
Piechota was efficient in goal for the Alfred University women's lacrosse team last week, earning two wins against SUNY Morrisville and Keuka College. Against the Mustangs, Piechota recorded 10 saves across three quarters of action. During the third quarter, Piechota recorded six saves for AU. She was additionally responsible for seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. In a 12-2 win against Keuka, Piechota finished the game with 14 saves. Piechota and the Saxons held the Wolves without a goal throughout the entire second half. She was additionally credited with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Overall, Piechota recorded 24 saves (.774 save percentage), 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Both was also instrumental in the wins last week for the Saxons. With the two victories, Alfred University has now matched their most regular season wins since the 2013 season. In a high-scoring 20-10 win against the Mustangs, Booth recorded six goals to go with a pair of assists. She finished the game with eight shots with six being on goal. Booth was additionally credited with five draw controls for the Saxons. Against Keuka, Booth once again led the offense for Alfred University with four goals from nine total shots. She additionally recorded six draw controls. Over the course of the week, Booth totaled 10 goals and two assists to go with 11 draw controls.
Piechota now has six career Empire 8 Weekly Awards which ties her with women's track & field's
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) and women's volleyball's
Amber Smith '20. Booth now has three total E8 Weekly Awards on her career.
On Monday, Piechota was named a Saxon of the Week along with men's track & field's
Jason Crocker (Oreland, PA/Springfield Township).
