HOUGHTON, NY - The Alfred University Men's Tennis team lost their final match of the regular season to Houghton University by a score of 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons clinched the four seed for the postseason and will look to regroup before returning to Houghton next Friday for a rematch in the semi-finals of the Empire 8 tournament.
In doubles action, Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) kept things competitive as the lost 8-3 from the #3 spot.
In singles, Walker Waldon (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) lost two close sets 6-4 from the #5 spot.
"Tough one today against Houghton." Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "Always a challenge to play against the number 1 seed. Lots of things that we can work on this week before we see Houghton next Friday. One week of training left before the real season starts! Go Saxons!"
Alfred University will next play in the semi-finals of the Empire 8 tournament against #1 seeded Houghton University on Friday, May 3rd at a TBD time.
