HOUGHTON, NY - The Alfred University Men's Tennis team lost in the semi-finals of the Empire 8 tournament to Houghton University by a score of 5-0 on Friday afternoon. 

The Saxons fought hard throughout the day, but weren't able to pick up the win in the end. They improved greatly as the season went on and will look to build upon this year's team as they only graduate one senior and will return all starters next spring.

In doubles action, Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) and Rodrygo Perez (Pelencia, Spain/IES Victorio Macho) battled back-and-forth and narrowly lost by a score of 8-6 from the #3 spot. They had a lead of 6-5, but unfortunately weren't able to close the match out. Mike Roberts (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Walker Waldon (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) also played in a contested match as they lost 8-4 from the #2 spot.

"Any coach wants their team to be playing their absolute best at the end of the season. I can confidently say that our team got better and better every week and we were able to hang right with the 1 seed in our tournament." Head Coach Jordan Crouch said. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to capitalize on the big points and couldn't get enough momentum to stay in front. I'm so proud of the group for all the blood, sweat and tears that they have poured into this season. They've been a dream to coach. Thanks so much to Letti for keeping us healthy and able to compete today. I know our team is hurting right now, but we're excited to get back to work to win a title in 2025!"
