ALFRED, NY – Junior Meghan Neto (Miami, FL/Doral Academy Charter) was named the Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.
 
Neto had a standout week for the Alfred University softball team, who won six consecutive Empire 8 games this past week. Against Keuka College, Neto was 3-for-7 with an RBI. In the first leg of the double-header against the Wolves, Neto was credited with a stolen base. Against Russell Sage College, Neto was 2-for-5 with an RBI. In the second game, Neto launched her second home run of the spring season.
 
Neto saved her best set of performances against Utica University, going 6-for-6 with seven RBI. Between both games, Neto recorded three doubles and drew one walk. In the field this past week, Neto was responsible for five putouts for the Saxons. Overall, Neto was 11-for-18 for a .611 batting average with nine RBI, three doubles, a home run, a walk and a stolen base.
 
She was also named a Saxon of the Week on Monday, alongside of men's lacrosse's Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks).
