ROCHESTER, NY – An early deficit for the Alfred University men's lacrosse team led to an 18-11 loss to St. John Fisher University on Wednesday.

"A slow start put us into a big deficit early," Head Coach
Jason Lockner said. "Our team played great in the second half.
Hunter Cupp was great at the face off X! The entire face off unit was a bright point.
Ashton Howlett,
Cameron Kenefick,
Shane Cubala and
Ian Marsh were outstanding as Cupp's wings. It's time to rebound and get the train back on track this Saturday."
An early 3-0 lead for St. John Fisher was snapped by Loewke's first goal of the afternoon. The Cardinals offset the damage with an additional goal of their own in the closing minutes to carry a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. The Cardinals added three more goals to begin the second half before Loewke dished an assist to Matson. Loewke dished another assist to Matson less than two minutes later to spark the offense for Alfred University. Loewke recorded two more goals for the Saxons, who trailed 16-6 with one quarter remaining. The first goal of the final quarter came from
Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport). The Saxons relied on additional goals from
Peter Colburn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford),
Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder),
Ashton Howlett (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Matson across the final five minutes of regulation, but time eventually ran out on a potential comeback.
