Mya Wells (San Ramon, CA/California) was named the Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner,
Joe Venniro.
Wells put together a historic week with the Alfred University softball team, who continued their spring season with a pair of non-conference games against Ithaca College and Penn State Behrend. Against Ithaca, Wells was 4-for-6 with three doubles, a home run and three RBI. Wells crossed home plate on three occasions for AU as part of an 11-0 victory in the second leg of a double-header. Against Penn State Behrend, Wells was 4-for-7, breaking the program record with her 44
th career double in the first game of the double-header. Wells added an RBI for the Saxons as part of a 5-2 victory against the Panthers. Overall, Wells was 8-for-13 this past week for a .615 batting average and currently is maintaining a .463 batting average this spring, which ranks third in the Empire 8.
Wells was joined by Alfred University track & field's
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) as the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week and
Anne Spila (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) as the Co-Field Athlete of the Week. Wells and Gilbert were also the Saxons of the Week on Monday.
