AUBURNDALE, FL – The Alfred University baseball team continued their Spring Break trip with a pair of losses to Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday.
The Saxons (1-6, 0-0 Empire 8) lost the first game by a score of 15-1 before dropping the second game 16-0.
"We will look to improve in all areas," Head Coach
Brian Kehew said. "Luckily we get another chance to compete in a double-header tomorrow to close out our Spring Break."
Game One
The Saxons relied on
Aaron Buck (Houghton, NY/Fillmore) on the mound for the first game. In his second start of the spring season, Buck went five innings while striking out three batters.
Connor Enebrad (Buckley, WA/Stadium) made a brief relief appearance, pitching one inning for Alfred University and recording two strikeouts.
An early RBI double in the first inning forced AU to play from behind. In the bottom half of the inning,
Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, Wellsboro Area) reached on a fielder's choice that eventually drove in
Jaymes Buddenhagen (Hortonville, NY/Sullivan West) to cut the deficit. The Saxons offense was led by
Nolan Pridmore (Toronto, ON, Canada Etobicoke Collegiate Institute), who went 2-of-3 at the plate, but Wentworth scored in four different innings to eventually secure their first win of the afternoon.
Game Two
In the second leg of the double-header,
Charlie Rapos (Warkworth, ON, Canada/Campbellford District) received the initial nod. The first-year finished the game with five strikeouts across four innings of action.
Chris McDonald (Toronto, ON, Canada Sir Wilfrid Laurier) also saw time on the mound, going three innings and striking out three batters.
Wentworth put across four runs in the top half of the first inning and saw additional runs between the third and fifth inning. The first hit of the afternoon from AU belonged to
Quinton Jordan (Olean, NY/Olean), who hit a single up the middle.
Gabe Cheddie (Toronto, ON, Canada/Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute) and
Anthony Cortez (Los Angeles, CA/Legacy) each recorded hits for the Saxons, but Wentworth ultimately won in shutout fashion.
Alfred University will once again face Wentworth Institute of Technology to close out their Spring Break on Friday with the first game beginning at 9:30 AM.
