AURORA, NY – The Alfred University baseball team lost a pair of non-conference games to Wells College on Thursday.
The Saxons (1-13, 0-3 Empire 8) lost the first game in 11-6 fashion, while being shut out 20-0 in the second game.
Game One
Aaron Buck (Houghton, NY/Fillmore) got the initial start on the mound for AU, completing four innings of work.
The first run for the Saxons came in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park). In the third inning, an RBI single from
Cameron Brought (Wellboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) drove in
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township).
Anthony Cortez (Los Angeles, CA/Legacy) quickly cleared the bases with a triple to cut the deficit for Alfred University. Mulholland remained active as a baserunner for the Saxons, scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.
Wells relied on nine runs in the first inning and followed it up with runs in the third and fifth innings to secure the first game.
Game Two
Charlie Rapos (Warkworth, ON, Canada/Campbellford District) and
Reyes Torres III (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) each pitched two innings for Alfred University in the second leg of the double-header.
The lone hit for the Saxons came in the fifth inning, as
Dylan Guthrie (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) knocked a double to right field. Wells responded with multiple runs in each of the first four innings, resulting in the game being called following the fifth inning.
Alfred University will return to Empire 8 competition against Russell Sage College on Saturday for a double-header beginning at 1:00 PM.
