HOUGHTON, NY - The Alfred University baseball team dropped a pair of conference games against Elmira College on Tuesday.
The Saxons lost the first game 22-9, while losing the second game 11-1.
Game One
Owen Jennings (Newcastle, ON, Canada/St. Stephen's Secondary) got the initial nod, striking out a pair of batters over three innings of action.
In the bottom half of the first inning, a walk drawn by Dylan Guthrie (Alfred, NY/Alfred-Almond) got AU on the scoreboard. Moments later, Jeff Petrozzini (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) reached on an error for the Saxons.
Benjamin Weimer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) additionally reached on an error in the second inning to drive in a run. Guthrie added to AU's offense with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Petrozzini knocked in two more runners with a single up the middle of the field.
RBI singles from Weimer and Cameron Brought (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) for Alfred University added to the offense, but consistent scoring from Elmira resulted in the loss.
Game Two
Weimer got the start in the second game for the Saxons, completing four innings of work. Weimer was additionally responsible for AU's lone run in the fourth inning, launching a home run over the left field wall.
The final hit from the Saxons came in the seventh inning, as Austin Pinney (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) recorded his first hit of the season.
Alfred University will next travel to Wells College on Thursday for a non-conference double-header.
