FREDERIKSSUND, DENMARK – Alfred University's
Christopher Cox '22 signed with the Frederikssund Oaks Senior American Football team to continue his playing career in Europe while also coaching the sport to the Oaks' younger programs.
"I'm excited to take my passion for football to new heights, combining the thrill of playing with the joy of coaching overseas," Cox said. "It's an incredible opportunity to grow, inspire and make a meaningful impact in a new culture while doing what I love."
The Frederikssund Oaks have football teams at five levels, starting with their Mini (U12-13), Cadet (U14-15), Development (U16-17), Junior (U19-20) and the Oaks Senior team. Frederikssund also hosts three sets of cheerleading teams for ages 7-15. Frederikssund is a Danish town of over 17,000 residents, just Northwest of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

As a Saxon, Cox participated in five seasons for the Saxons due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and established himself as an integral part of the AU defense in his sophomore season. He played in 31 games with 194 tackles (112 solo stops), 24.5 tackles for a loss of 93 yards with 9.5 of those being sacks for a loss of 62 yards. He picked off passes five times including a career-high return of 32 yards that resulted in a touchdown against Hartwick College. Cox forced seven fumbles with three fumble recoveries.
Cox earned All-Empire 8 Second Team Defense in 2022, totaled two Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week accolades and was a Saxon of the Week once. Upon concluding his playing career, he was named the 2022 Alex Yunevich Defensive Most Valuable Player during the team's end-of-year banquet.
"Chris was an outstanding linebacker at Alfred University," Saxon Head Coach,
Bob Rankl said. "He was a very smart and physical football player. Myself and our entire coaching staff are so excited to see him get this opportunity. I have no doubt that he will excel overseas."
Cox earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2022 from Alfred University.
