HOUGHTON, NY -- To wrap up their season, the Alfred University Men's Cross Country team brought home seventh in the Empire 8 Championship Meet.
"Great work by the Saxons," graduate assistant
Kevin Flint said. "We had 10 personal records and three season best times on the men's side. The young team handled the pressures of a championship level meet exceptionally well."
Leading the charge for the Saxons was
Finnegan Dean (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam Central), who moved up 12 spots in the race to finish 75th overall. He wrapped up a time of 27:35.3. Just three positions back was
Jacob Taylor (Cohocton, NY/Avoca) with a 27:41.7.
In third for Alfred University was
Max Rasilla (Moraga, CA/Midland) in his final race, who clocked in a 28:06.9. He was quickly followed in by
Yuner Sesmas (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area) just two positions behind with a time of 28:30.0.
For the final point-scoring spot, it would be a battle right to the end between two Saxon runners.
Garrett Farabaugh (Abington, PA/Abington Senior) finished with a 29:06.3, managing to just get ahead of
Aidan Bieron (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) right before the line, with Bieron just 0.2 seconds behind at 29:06.5.
The 8K race provided even more great insight on the future of the Saxons cross country squad, as
Matt Phillips' '10 side all teamed up together to manage a spread of just 1:31.0. The team will prepare for the NCAA Regional Championship on November 16 in Fredonia at 11 AM.
