ELMIRA, NY -- The Alfred University women's volleyball team defeated Elmira College in Empire 8 from Speidel Gymnasium on Friday evening, 3-0.
The Saxons (9-3, 1-0 Empire 8) defeated the Soaring Eagles (2-13, 0-2 Empire 8) 25-22, 25-18 and 25-18.
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and
Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) were standouts on the offensive side as they went 1-2 in match-leading scoring as Malone totaled 14.0 points while Omelan had 10.5. No Elmira player scored in double digits. Omelan led the charge in hitting percentages as she hit an astounding .750, recording nine kills on 12 attacks with no errors. She tacked on an ace and a block assist. Malone was the only player in the match to reach double-digit kills, registering 11 kills on 23 attacks with two errors for a .391 hitting percentage.
Cara Bratthauar (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg Area) joined on the high-percentage trend as she hit a .444 with six kills on nine attempts with two errors.
The Saxons totaled 15 service aces compared to Elmira's five. Leading the way was
Jade Wolfer (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) with five while
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) had four and a team-high nine digs.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) returned to the court to lead the match with 18 set assists while
Jessica Lucille Ramirez (Riverside, CA/Hillcrest) tied for second in the match with 13 assists.
The Saxons will next host Keuka College on Saturday, October 5 at 1:00pm in Empire 8 action.
