ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team completed an Empire 8 weekend sweep as it defeated Keuka College, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
The Saxons (10-3, 2-0 Empire 8) defeated the Wolves (5-10, 1-2 Empire 8) in four sets, dropping the first set, 25-21 before taking the next three, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-11.
"It was a great opening weekend in conference for us," Head Coach
Mike Honeycutt said. "Starting 2-0 is a great accomplishment. It shows how hard we have been working. I am proud of our team and look forward to our continued growth."
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had another match-high as she had 18.0 points on 16 kills and two service aces. She had a double-double as she had a match-high 21 digs while adding four assists.
Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) supplemented with 11.5 points on 11 kills and one block assist while adding five digs and one set assist.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) neared 1,000 set assists as she tied for a match-high 34 assists. She also had a double-double with 11 digs while adding 9.5 points on five kills, four aces and one block assist.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) added 13 digs while tacking on an ace in the win.
The Saxons will next travel to the University of Rochester on Wednesday, October 9 for a 7:00pm non-conference matchup.
