ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team dropped a five-set match to visiting Hartwick College on Friday evening from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena in Empire 8 action.
The Saxons (12-6, 4-2 Empire 8) fell in a rough, 25-16 first set but came back to win the second set, 25-21 and the third set, 25-16. The Hawks (14-2, 4-2 Empire 8) took a contested fourth set, 25-22 to force the deciding fifth set. The Saxons had a 13-10 lead in the fifth but the Hawks clawed back to win the set, 17-15 and claim the match.
Alfred University had the Top-2 scorers of the match in
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) with 19.5 points on 19 kills and one block assist as well as
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) with 15.5 points on 15 kills and a block assist. Santavy also hit a match-high with a .444 out of hitters that had 10 or more attacks.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) and
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) also had match-highs as Chun totaled 26 digs, 10 more than any other player, and Sims had 49 set assists.
Cara Bratthauar (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg Area) recorded two match-highs with four aces and four block assists. She totaled 12.0 points by adding six kills.
Following Chun in digs was
Jessica Lucille Ramirez (Riverside, CA/Hillcrest) with 11.
The Saxons will next host Russell Sage College on Saturday, October 19 at 1:00pm in Empire 8 action.
