ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team got back on track after a 3-0 win over visiting Russell Sage College in Empire 8 action from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons (13-6, 5-2 Empire 8) won the first set with gusto, 25-9 before two close set wins ended the match, 25-22 and 25-21. "We wrapped up a tough conference week with a great match versus Sage," Head Coach
Mike Honeycutt said. "Our team rebounded well from an emotional five-set loss the night before and came out strong today. It's always good to get a straight sets sweep of a tough conference opponent. We will keep improving and working hard to put ourselves in the best position for the conference tournament."
Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) continued her streak of hitting mania as she hit a .522 with a match-high 14.5 points on 14 kills and one block assist. She had only two errors on 23 attacks while adding two digs.
Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) supplemented with 11.0 points, all from kills as she hit a .381.
Catherina Krause (Plugerville, TX/Plugerville) neared an Empire 8 record as she swung .857 with six kills on seven attacks and no errors.
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) broke a career-high with 36 set assists in a three-set match. She neared a double-double with nine digs as well.
Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) continued to lead the defense as she was the only player on the court with double-digit digs, recording 12.
All but four Saxons who stepped onto the court registered a point for the team.
The Saxons will next travel to SUNY Brockport on Friday, October 25 for a 6:00pm Empire 8 match.
