ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University's Men's Soccer team played strong but fell short in a 2-1 final Wednesday afternoon against SUNY Brockport.

"Tough loss today against Brockport," head coach Tracy Blake said. "We shouldn't give up two goals in the final minutes of the game, we talk about it all the time. I think we did ourselves slightly proud despite not winning the game. We just have to reset and get ready to go to Geneseo."

Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) was busy from the get-go, making a crucial stop in the opening. It was beneficial, as just a few minutes later Christian Moon (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) would keep his hot streak rolling, scoring his third goal in two games off a corner kick from Gavin Culley (San Diego, CA/San Dieguito Academy).

Mulholland would then be kept busy, making eight saves for the remainder of the match. He would face 10 shots in both halves, with a couple more from the Golden Eagles finding the woodwork and out of play. Juan Jose Menendez Gutierrez (Villanueva Cañada, Madrid, Spain/Woodstock Academy) would get the best Saxons look in the second half where he nicked the ball off the foot of the defender and left the goalkeeper in no mans land, but sent his shot just wide of the far post.

Alfred University would be unlucky not to take a point out of them with this match after fighting hard for 80 minutes. The Saxons sit at an even 3-3-2 in Empire 8 Conference play with just three games to go before the Empire 8 Championship Tournament.

Next up is a short drive up to Geneseo to play the Knights on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 pm.
