GENESEO, NY -- Alfred University Men's Soccer team traveled to face the SUNY Geneseo Knights on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 after 90 minutes.
"Tough away loss at Geneseo today," head coach
Tracy Blake said. "The lads played really well and a couple of errors led to their goal in the first half."
The Saxons (5-8-2, 3-4-2 Empire 8) found life difficult to get past the Geneseo defense. Meanwhile at the other end,
Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) would be kept busy facing 11 shots and making four saves within those 90 minutes.
Playing from behind, Alfred University fought hard to get back into the match. While pushing forward and looking for the equalizer, it left space open in the back for the Knights to put the game away with their second goal late in the match. Overall, it was a strong midfield battle all afternoon, and it brought out the best of the Saxon midfielders.
"
Niko Lampros (Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge) was huge for us toady," Blake said. "
Connor Scriven (Peoria, AZ/Liberty),
Rodrigo Perez (Pelencia, Spain/IES Victorio Macho), and
Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) were great today as well."
The final two regular season matches of the 2024 campaign will take place at Yunevich Stadium, starting with senior day on Saturday, October 26 against Hartwick College. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 pm, but be sure to come early to celebrate our Saxon seniors!
