ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team was defeated by Houghton University, 3-1 on Tuesday evening from the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena in Empire 8 action.
 
The Saxons (12-5, 4-1 Empire 8) won the first set, 25-17 but fell in three consecutive sets, 12-25, 22-25, 22-25 to the Highlanders (8-9, 5-0 Empire 8).
 
Three Saxons had double-digit kills and points but the biggest deficit was in attack errors as AU had 38 in total while Houghton had only 15. Abigail Omelan (Tomball, TX/Tomball Memorial) led the Saxons' scoring efforts with 12.0 points, all from kills while Taylor Malone (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and Carleigh Santavy (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Northern) each had 11 kills for 11.0 points.
 
Delaney Sims (Bogart, GA/George Walton Academy) had 30 set assists while recording eight kills and 10 digs. Jamie Chun (Hilo, HI/Hilo) had 16 digs to lead the defense. Both Sims's assists and Chun's digs were match-highs.
 
The Saxons will next continue their home schedule when they host Hartwick College on Friday at 6:00pm in conference action.
