Men's Swim & Dive Pick Up Win in E8 Opener at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University Men's swimming & diving team claimed a win in their first Empire 8 matchup of the season against Nazareth by a score of 186-101.

The Saxons (4-2, 1-0 Empire 8) returned to action after a 6-week winter break and training on the team's recent trip to Florida.

"It was great to get back into competition after a six week hiatus." Head Coach Brian Striker '00 said. "After a break at home and then two weeks of intense training, I was excited to see that we did as well as we did; we have been working hard and I figured we would be a little sluggish, but we were ready to race and dive. Nazareth, having a short course meter pool may have been a good thing out of our training trip, it pushed our focus to racing, as opposed to comparing our times and overthinking things. The work the divers did over the last two weeks also showed on the boards."

The 200 SC Meter medley relay team of William LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Wade LaMastus (Maumee, OH/Anthony Wayne), Keagen Winkky (Horseheads, NY Horseheads) and Emmanuel Drappatz (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) claimed the first win of the day with a time of 1:51.72.

Phillip Volaski (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) won the 100 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:03.50. He also won the 200 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 2:18.45.

Wade LaMastus won the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:10.20. He also won the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:39.34.

Giuseppe Piede (Dunellen, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) won the 200 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 2:31.79.

Drappatz won the 50 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 24.61.

Ryan Way (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Preparatory) claimed the win in both the 1-meter diving and the 3-meter diving.

Will LaMastus won the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 4:28.15. He also won the 200 SC Meter IM with a time of 2:20.20.

Colby Watkins (New Orleans, LA/St. Martin's Episcopal) won the 100 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:01.86.
