Box Score ALBANY, NY - A defensive battle for the Alfred University women's soccer team resulted in a 0-0 draw with Russell Sage College on Saturday from the ACP Athletic Complex.
The Saxons (1-3-3, 0-0-2 Empire 8) defended 11 shots from the Gators (5-1-1, 2-0 Empire 8), 5 of which were on goal.
Abby Scanlan (Albion, NY/Charles D'Amico) recorded 1 shot on goal for the Saxons.
Olivia Gilbert (Ontario, NY/Wayne Central) finished with a team-high 3 shots.
Kiani Barnard-Pratt (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) totaled 5 saves as part of her 9th career shutout performance.

The Saxons faced pressure early from the Gators in the opening half, rejecting 3 shots and 2 corner kick attempts across the first 5 minutes of action. Alfred University got their first scoring opportunity in the 16th minute thanks to a shot on goal from Scanlan. The Saxons held the Gators without a shot attempt for over 30 minutes before going into halftime with a scoreless draw.
Gilbert was the first to put a shot across for AU early in the second half. The defense continued to play well for the Saxons throughout the afternoon, holding Russell Sage without a shot on goal until the 84th minute. Both sides traded late shots before the final horn sent both teams home with a draw.
Alfred University will remain on the road to face SUNY Brockport in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
