ERIE, PA – The Alfred University men's soccer team finished the second day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament with a 0-0 draw against Baldwin Wallace University.
The Saxons were led by Goalkeeper Matthew Osmundson (Draper, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) who recorded eight saves along with posting a clean sheet. Center Backs AJ Giaquinto (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Adam Enders (Belfast, NY/Belfast) also played a key role in keeping the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard.
"Great effort from the boys after a hard battle yesterday. Everyone fought hard through tired legs for the program." Head Coach Tracy Blake said.
Both Alfred and Baldwin Wallace had six shots in the first half, but no one was able to find the back of the net. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Saxons in the second half but were thwarted by the Saxon defense and goalkeeper. Osmundson came up with an especially great save midway through the second half as he was able to parry a Yellow Jacket shot off of the post to keep it out. Once again, William Moore (Stormville, NY/John Jay) and Sai Baraka (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) held down the midfield for Alfred University.
"We are excited moving forward from this weekend, especially because we didn't lose in our first 2 games for the first time since 2009." Blake said. "Back to work Monday to fix a few things before our trip west on Wednesday to play Pitt Bradford."
Alfred University will next travel to play University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Wednesday, September 2nd at 7 PM.
