ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University Men's Soccer team cruised to victory by a score of 4-0 over Hilbert College in their final tune up match before Empire-8 Play.

The Saxons were led by Gavin Culley (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy), Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme), William Moore (Stormville, NY John Jay) and Chase Freeland (Hornell, NY/Hornell) who each scored a goal in the game. 

Goalkeeper Matthew Osmundson (Draper, UT/Juan Diego Catholic) recorded four saves for AU and combined with fellow Goalkeeper Daniel Koenig (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) for the shutout.

"We definitely didn't play up to our best tonight, however a shutout win is always nice before E-8 games" Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "I thought Christian Martinez was excellent in his first start for the Saxons." 

The Saxons took the early lead when Culley opened the scoring in the 15th minute of play. Sokolovsky extended the lead and made it 2-0 just five minutes later. Alfred repeated the back-to-back goals in the second half when Moore scored on a rebound from a Freeland shot and then two minutes later Freeland found the back of the net himself. 

"We finished the pre-conference games with a good win against an improved Hilbert team." Blake said. "Looking forward to the challenge this weekend at Hartwick."

Alfred University will next play on the road at Hartwick College for their first match in Empire-8 play on Saturday, September 16th at 3 PM.
