Saxons Drop Highly Contested Game 1-0

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University Men's Soccer team lost a close matchup against Bryant & Stratton College by a score of 1-0 on the second day of their Bryan Karl Tournament.

The Saxons were led by Noam Sokolovsky (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) who recorded three shots during the game. Goalkeeper Tyler Mulholland (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) recorded seven saves for AU.

"Closing the Bryan Karl tournament, we had a tough loss today against a strong Bryant & Stratton team." Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "I thought the team played very well over the weekend and I don't think we deserved to lose today."

The Saxons conceded on an unlucky goal that fell in between their two defenders and found its way into the back of the net. Alfred fought to the very end and nearly came up with an equalizing goal in the 60th minute of the game after a shot from Juan Jose Menendez Gutierrez (Villanueva Cañada, Madrid, Spain/Woodstock Academy) which was saved off the line by a defender. The ball rebounded out to a waiting Sokolovsky, who hit a shot on the volley that was headed straight for the bottom left corner, but was again saved off the line by a Bryant & Stratton defender.

"We are learning so much about the squad and moved a step closer to the E-8 conference games with excitement and confidence." Blake said.

Alfred University will next play at home on Wednesday, September 13th against Hilbert College at 7 PM for their final tune up game before the start of Empire-8 play.
