UTICA, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team was defeated by Utica University by a score of 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Utica University Tennis Courts.
In doubles action, Mike Roberts (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) and Bill Tran (Hanoi, Vietnam/Grace Christian) won their match by a score of 8-5 from the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, Walker Waldon (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) won his match from the No. 3 spot. Tran forced a third set from the No. 5 spot. Matthew Bittel (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) scored five points in his second respective set from the No. 2 spot. Mark Ungurian (Chornomorsk, Ukraine/School #6) also picked up four points in his first respective set from the No. 4 spot.
"Congrats to Bill and Walker for their first conference wins today. Second doubles played really well and pulled out that big win for us. Heading into singles, Walker came out on fire and got the job done in convincing fashion. Lot of room to improve before we gave them a second time to change the outcome" Head Coach Jordan Crouch said.
Alfred University will next play at Medaille University on Tuesday, April 11th at 4:30 PM.
