ALFRED, NY – Two Alfred University Saxons swept the weekly Empire 8 honors on Monday as made official in an announcement from Association Commissioner, Joe Venniro, as Jessica Remm (Carmel, IN/Carmel) was named the Player of the Week and Megan Bennett (Athens, PA/Athens Area) was named the Pitcher of the Week.
 
Remm helped the Saxons go 6-2 on the week and 4-0 in Empire 8 action as she hit .484 with two games batting a thousand. She totaled 15 hits with five doubles, including her 3-for-3, three double performance in a win over AMCC-leading Penn State Behrend, tying Sophia Chiavatti '17 and her three doubles against Nazareth in 2015 for the AU school record. Remm drove in 13 runs while crossing home plate six times herself. On the bases, she was a perfect, 5-for-5 in stolen bases. Defensively, Remm made successful plays on all seven balls out past the dirt, recording six putouts and one assist.
 
Bennett went 4-1 on the week inside of the pitcher's circle while recording one save. In 21.2 innings pitched, she only gave up 15 hits and two earned runs. During that time as well, she struck out opposing batters 24 times with a weekly and season-high 10 times in a conference win at Elmira College. Bennett also had three assists and a putout on the week with no errors.
 
They were joined in the Empire 8 listings by Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) as the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week. Teammate, Isabella Carrillo (Van Nuys, CA/Birmingham Community Charter) was named a Saxon of the Week on Monday along with men's lacrosse's Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph).
 
Remm, Bennett and the rest of the Saxons will next close out the regular season with another eight-game week, six of which coming from three Empire 8 double-headers. The first up is a non-conference road series at Fredonia on Tuesday, April 25 at 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
