Men's Lacrosse Pushes Past Oswego State in 13-5 Victory

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team concluded the nonconference portion of their 2023 season with a 13-5 win over Oswego State on Wednesday afternoon from Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (9-4, 4-1 Empire 8) defended 53 shots, while forcing the Lakers (6-3, 4-0 SUNYAC) to 22 turnovers.

Alfred University was led by Marcus Darminio (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) who scored four times across six shots on goal. Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) totaled five points from two goals and three assists. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) had a busy afternoon for the Saxons, picking up 16 saves in the win.

"I'm very happy with the way we played today," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "Oswego is a very solid SUNYAC playoff team. Scott was outstanding in goal today! We did a nice job of picking up the ground balls off the turn on the defensive end."

A pass from Paul Forte (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) to Dawson Felenchak (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) opened scoring for AU in the first quarter. Both sides didn't allow a goal for over 10 minutes before Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) found the back of the net to extend the lead. Darminio scored his first goal of the afternoon before the Saxons took a 3-0 lead going into the second quarter. Matson was the first to score for Alfred University in the second quarter. Additional goals from both Darminio and Forte had the Saxons leading 7-0 going into the break.

Darminio found the back of the net in the opening minutes of the second half to set the tone for Alfred University's offense. The Lakers responded with four goals of their own to cut the deficit. Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored his first goal of the afternoon to conclude the third quarter, as AU led 9-4. Riley carried his momentum over into the final quarter, scoring again in the opening stages. Oswego State scored once more, but Alfred University answered with goals from Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling), Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling), and Matson to secure the victory.

"We're ready for a road game coming up against Medaille," Lockner said. "It's a conference game, so we're excited."

Alfred University will next travel for their final road game of the regular season against Medaille University next Saturday at 3:30 PM.
