Men's Lacrosse Crushes Keuka College, 20-8

KEUKA PARK, NY - The Alfred University men's lacrosse team defeated Keuka College by a score of 20-8 on Saturday afternoon from the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) led the Saxons in scoring with three goals. Marcus Darminio (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) and Paul Forte (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) finished the game with a team high four points each. Josh Hauman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) was close behind with three points, from two goals and an assist. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) led AU with seven saves in net.

"It was necessary for us to return to the winning column. Our goal is to win the conference championship and this was all part of the process. A lot of guys got in today." Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "And to top it all off, our parents raised over $600 for the cancer awareness that Keuka College was doing. Just an amazing group of people."

The Saxons set the tone in the first quarter as they were able to build a 6-2 lead and never looked back. That being said, they fell behind to start the game as Keuka took the early lead 2-0. The tide soon turned though as Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Hauman helped the Saxons to respond, scoring two man-up goals in quick succession, just over a minute apart. This was the start of a barrage of 14-straight unanswered goals for the Saxons to close out the first half.

Peter Colburn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) picked up where they left off in the first half with his second goal of the game, less than a minute into the third quarter. The Saxons continued to dominate with a goal from Hunter Cupp (Bath, NY/Haverling) a few minutes later. His goal extended Alfred's goal streak to 17-straight before Keuka found the back of the net again. Both teams traded goals the rest of the way, and the Saxons were able to close out a comfortable win in the end.

"The non-conference game is a good opportunity against a good team to work on some things we're trying to get ready for and build off of before playoffs. Hunter Cupp did a great job on the ground balls today as did Dawson Felenchak."

Alfred University will next host SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, April 19th at 4:00 PM.
