Men's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team were outscored as part of a 16-5 loss to Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon from the Wachenheim Field.

The Saxons (2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) finished with 41 shot attempts while forcing the Thoroughbreds (2-1, 0-0 Liberty League) to 21 turnovers.

Kevin Matson (Chenango Bridge, NY/Chenango Forks) totaled three goals from eight shots on goal. Brendan Riley (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored once while picking up two ground balls. Justin Mosher (Hilton, NY/Hilton) recorded three points from one goal and two assists.

"This game has shown us the importance of how composure and discipline are necessary," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "We lacked it in the first half but showed we can do it in the second half."

Skidmore scored twice in the opening quarter before Mosher got Alfred University on the scoreboard. The Thoroughbreds added three additional goals before entering the second quarter with a 5-1 lead. Matson was the lone Saxon to score in the second quarter, as Alfred University trailed 10-2 going into the break. Matson and Riley combined for three goals in the second half, but Skidmore extended their lead and eliminated any chance of a potential comeback.

"We will look to bounce back on Wednesday," Lockner said. "We have some younger guys doing great thinks like Riley at the midfield and Quinn Sullivan in goal."

Alfred University will next pack their bags and travel to Sparks, Maryland, where they will compete against Emmanuel College on Wednesday at 1:00 PM.
