ALFRED, NY – Alfred University's Ashley Lugo (Hesperia, CA/Oak Hills) was selected as the Empire 8 Softball Player of the Week on Monday in an official announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.
 
Lugo helped the Saxons to not only a 2-1 week, but to a new team record for single-game stolen bases. She had four of the Saxons' nine stolen bases in a single game with Alfred State College on Sunday. She also went a perfect, 3-for-3 and one walk in Sunday's matchup, driving in two runs and crossing home plate twice herself. Lugo added three hits in a double-header split at King's College on Wednesday. She had one sacrificed bunt and was struck out only once on the entire week. Defensively, Lugo capitalized on all 10 of her chances at King's, recorded five putouts and five assists.
 
On Monday, Lugo was joined by fellow Californian and Ashley, Ashley O'Toole (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) as an Empire 8 Weekly Award recipient. O'Toole was named the E8 Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
 
The Saxons will next host SUNY Geneseo for a non-conference double-header at Harrington Field on Wednesday, March 29. Game times are listed at 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
